Statistics Finland: Popularity of the Internet and online newspapers growing
According to research published by Statistics Finland in August 2008, the use of the Internet among people aged 16 to 74 has become more intensive and regular. 83 per cent of the participants have used the Internet during the three months preceding the interview. The corresponding figure for year 2004 was 70 per cent.
More people read online newspapers and blogs. According to Statistics Finland, 63 per cent of 16-74 year-olds read online newspapers last spring. The number has grown 6 per cent compared to the previous year. The age had no great significance in the online newspapers consumption figures, but the 30-49 age group appeared slightly more active in this respect. 38 per cent of the respondents read the blogs, which was a 5 per cent increase compared to the previous year.
