Background
Some of the team members have been with the company from the very beginning, providing an invaluable perspective on the needs driving technology development. They also have a detailed understanding of the work of media analysts, ensuring that the developed technology is immediately deployable. Others, including the CTO, have an academic background in the field of machine learning, and continue to work part-time in EU research projects. This ensures a complementary, abstract point of view, which avoids the pitfalls of too much tailoring.
A live connection to bleeding edge research
The CTO and two other technology team members have worked for more than ten years at the University of Helsinki in the CoSCo research group, currently led by Prof. Petri Myllymäki, formerly led by Henry Tirri, now Head of the Nokia Research Centre. Their work in that context includes projects such as SIB, ALVIS, CLASS and SMART, all of which deal with topics related to next generation search engine methodology: semantic, interactive refinement of search, query by text, semantic query language operators, query-dependent ranking, cross-lingual information retrieval and statistical machine translation. In general, they have years of experience in applying methods from Bayesian inference and information theory (MDL).
Technology development experience
Several team members have years of experience working as professional software developers in the private sector, and two of them are co-founders of two startups: BayesIT Inc., a provider of an online data analysis service based on Bayesian modelling, and Ekahau Inc., an award-winning positioning solutions provider; they possess three patents in that context.
