Fruitful talk at FRUCT seminar

M-Brain has participated in the annual FRUCT seminar by Nokia Research Center, Helsinki University of Technology and Nokia Siemens Networks. It has been scientific yet cozy atmosphere, which has helped to relax even having 15 minutes to talk about such complex things like semantic analysis, its applications and use cases. We presented the functional model of a natural language, which is believed to be applicable to any natural language (currently the model has been implemented for Russian).

Information retrieval: conceptual problem (user wish list)

I decided to crosspost my original post here, having a twofold aim:

1) bring more visibility to it;

2) break a chain of unposting days from IT.

Another axis in the intellectual space

is about to arrive. It has been named Wolfram Alpha and brings in a public automatic question answering machine. The creator, Stephen Wolfram, attempts to convince the audience, that:

1) sometimes you need an answer which cannot be found with Google and the like;

2) answering a question is not always a result of searching a relevant page, yet it is a calculation process.

Machine Translation demos

It turns out that the most promoted Machine Translation Systems on the web are currently Google Translate and Systran (used to be and most probably is a benchmark for machine translators for European languages). It was curiously to find more and after diving with Google I managed to find a nice page with more than 100 machine translation systems, some of which are available as demos online.
