M-Brain was founded 1999 by its long time CEO Marjukka Nyberg as a working team focused on media measurement and analysis.
Digitalization, the growth of internet and the explosion of social media demanded a more effective way of collecting media data than manual reading. M-Brain developed its first generation search engine in 2000-01 to meet this challenge. Using the newly designed cross-language search engine the company started to offer its clients web-based media monitoring
2006 M-Brain attracted its first outside investor, when Veraventure acquired a minority stake in the company
2007 M-Brain took a quantum leap in its technology development, hiring an experienced researcher, Kimmo Valtonen, from one of the leading machine learning and semantic search research groups in the world. He took the lead in M-Brain’s R&D, building an agile leading-edge team of world-class applied machine learning researchers and top-skilled developers
2011 several new investors came on board, enabling M-Brain to acquire its major domestic competitor, the Finnish subsidiary of Cision AB. M-Brain more than doubled its revenues and number of employees, adding effective processing of analog media content to its offering
2012 another important acquisition took place, when business intelligence provider Esmerk Oy became part of M-Brain Group
2013 M-Brain acquired Finnish social media monitoring company Whitevector
2014 M-Brain Listed a Bond on First North Bond Market Finland. M-Brain acquired market intelligence company Global Intelligence Alliance Group (GIA), expanding its global reach to the Americas as well as strengthening its foothold in Asia
